Johan Söderholm

I am since 2005 a PhD Student in Business Administration at the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE) with a planned defence of my thesis in 2011. The work is a continuation on earlier works from my licentiate degree from 1998.   I also work as a controller for various research organisations associated with SSE.

The main focal points of my research are governance in complex multi-level associations as confederations and federations involving management systems, meaning of organisations goals, financing and what consequences does the financing have on the organizations operations?

CURRENT RESEARCH PROJECTS

The use of Management by Objectives in different types of organisations (thesis project). My thesis is a comparative analysis on Management by Objectives in three different types of organisations: a for-profit organisation (Insurance company), a stateowned organisation (Swedish National Postal Organisation) and a non-profit organisation (The Swedish Sports Confederation and the 68 Special Sports federations). The analysis is based on both qualitative interviews and a study of formal documents describing the objectives of the organisations. The thesis discusses the use and purpose of the stated goals of the organisations and how their results are measured.

Strategy and governance in producer co-operatives. Complementary to my thesis project I am also studying the strategy and governance within agricultural producers' co-operatives. The project is in collaboration with Stefan and Torbjörn Einarsson.
